TGIF!
I've decided to start modeling and these photos are my first in this new career lol! I'm absolutely kidding! As you know, this month we're talking about being the 'salt of the earth' and I wanted to share some practical tips that can be applied to daily living. Each practical tip also includes a thoughtful journal or reflection prompt that can be used in exploring your thoughts, beliefs, and actions. I especially love prompts because I believe it brings value and connection to what's being processed. I think the ones I provide below will require you to dig a little deep and draw insights from past experiences. Grab your notebook, pen, and snack and let's get to these prompts!
Encourage Others Daily: Offer kind words, thoughtful compliments, and encouragement to those around you. A simple "I appreciate you" or "You're doing a great job" can brighten someone’s day and remind them of their value.
Journal Prompt: Think about someone you encouraged recently. How did they respond, and how did it make you feel? Reflect on how being intentional with encouragement could impact your relationships and your own outlook.
Stand for Truth with Grace: Speak the truth, even when it’s difficult, but do so with kindness and humility. For example, if a friend is gossiping, steer the conversation to a more positive topic, showing that integrity matters to you.
Reflection Prompt: Recall a recent moment when you had to speak up for truth. How did you approach it, and what was the outcome? Reflect on how you can balance honesty with humility and kindness.
Be Generous with Your Time and Resources: Find ways to serve others, whether it's volunteering at a local shelter, helping a neighbor with yard work, or supporting someone in need financially. Giving generously (always using wisdom!) reflects Christ’s love and compassion.
Journal Prompt: When was the last time you went out of your way to help someone? What motivated you, and how did it affect both you and the person you helped? Reflect on areas where you could give more freely of your time and resources.
Pray for Those Around You: Pray specifically for your family, friends, community leaders, and others. Lifting others up in prayer connects you to God’s heart for them and invites His presence into their lives.
Reflection Prompt: Choose one person you prayed for recently. Write about what you prayed for and how it felt to bring their needs before God. How can praying for others deepen your love and empathy for them?
Be an Example of Forgiveness: When someone hurts you, forgive them and let go of grudges, even when it's hard. Forgiveness is a powerful testimony of God’s grace and can inspire others to do the same.
Journal Prompt: Think of a time when someone hurt you, and you chose to forgive them. How did it feel to let go of the offense, and how did it impact the relationship? What does forgiving others teach you about God’s grace?
Show Patience and Gentleness: In a world that often reacts quickly and harshly, respond to frustrations with patience. For example, if someone is rude to you in a store, respond with calmness and understanding, showing a different way to handle conflict.
Reflection Prompt: Reflect on a recent situation where patience was challenging. How did you respond, and what could you learn from that moment? What helps you stay calm and compassionate when things don’t go as planned?
Share Your Faith Boldly: Look for opportunities to share what God has done in your life. Whether through words or actions, let your love for God and gratitude for His work in your life be evident to others.
Journal Prompt: Who in your life might benefit from hearing about God’s work in your life? Write down a time you shared your faith, or what it might look like to share it with gentleness and confidence in the future.
Promote Unity and Peace: Whether at work, with family, or among friends, encourage understanding and cooperation. Be a peacemaker who helps others find common ground, which reflects Jesus' call for unity.
Reflection Prompt: Recall a situation where you helped to create peace in a tense environment. What steps did you take, and how did others respond? Reflect on how you might continue to build bridges and encourage unity.
Care for the Environment: Be mindful of the resources God has given us, from recycling to conserving water. Caring for creation is one way to honor God and show respect for the world He entrusted to us.
Journal Prompt: Consider one thing you could do to take better care of the environment this week. What motivates you to care for God’s creation, and how does it reflect your respect for His gifts?
Offer a Listening Ear: Be fully present and attentive to those who need to talk, even if they’re not seeking advice. Offering your time to listen can provide comfort and support, showing Christ’s compassion in a tangible way.
Reflection Prompt: Think of a recent conversation where you chose to simply listen. How did it affect the other person, and what did it reveal to you about the power of presence? How can listening deepen your compassion and understanding for others?
Even a small act can have a big impact. Be the salt that changes your world.
Each of these practical actions allows us to add "flavor" to the world, enhancing and preserving the good around us while pointing people to God. Everything we do should always point people to God. Remember that.
Love,
Keps a.k.a Salt Bae ;)
